Fabio Quartararo has been decorated with the "Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur" (Knight of Honour). This is one of the highest state distinctions in France, having been established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.
After last year's MotoGP title - being the first Frenchman to achieve it - Quartararo received the distinction yesterday on July 14. It is France's National Day, or Bastille Day.
Quoted on the official MotoGP website, the President of the French Motorcycling Federation, Sebastien Poirier, said: 'This is a date to be marked with a milestone, the echoes of this distinction will resonate forever within the national sporting landscape, it is recognition at the highest performance level of our world champion by the Nation.'
