Two met in Nyeri

"When I was looking for a wife, I prayed to God that He would give me a wife who was also a friend. I didn't want to get married then later get a divorce," David Ritho told TUKO.co.ke on June 28.
"Siwezi kung'atuka kwasababu nawapenda na tena kwasababu mimi ni mchristo. Last year we did our wedding in the PCEA church when she was on a wheelchair," he revealed.

The two met in Nyeri and on that day Mercy Nyokabi was in the company of other women; as soon as he saw her, he knew he had found the love of his life.

He approached her, and she told him to go visit his parents to prove he was serious about her.

"I went to her home and her dad asked me very tough questions since she was the firstborn. I said I was serious and would take her to my parents," said the devoted husband.

Nyokabi suffers from tremors

Nyokabi suffers from a condition known as Atazia; it causes her to shake uncontrollably, and eventually, it causes her to be confined in a wheelchair.

In a very shaky voice, Nyokabi revealed that two of the couple's kids also have a condition that makes them shake uncontrollably.

The old man told TUKO.co.ke that while the disease was still in the early stages for the lady, it had significantly progressed for the young man. His wife's condition is at an advanced stage.

Nyokabi started getting sick 22 years ago, and they used to go to Kenyatta National Hospital for clinics.

A complete diagnosis was eventually done at the Aga Khan Hospital. The matron lady's condition has deteriorated over the last 10 years.

"Unashindwa kutembea, mtu hana nguvu na speed inaharibika. Tuko na mashida mingi; watoto wetu walitengwa, wakatoka kwa ndoa zao na sasa wako hapa na wajukuu," she said.
"My wife stays at home with all our kids as they both have that condition. It is a genetic condition and my mother-in-law also died of it. My son was married but his wife left him so I started a business for him since he is also in a wheelchair," she added.

Things only worsened for the family as the other child also got the condition.

"My daughter is also right here with us as the condition caused her husband to reject her and she came home with three kids. I make very little money and they all depend on it," he said.

The couple was only blessed with two kids.

"Nilikua takata watoto wanne au tao watano but daktari akasema ugonjwa haitaki watoto wengine kwasababu ya kunyonyesha," he said.

Despite the condition at home, the loving husband has vowed to stand by his wife to the end.

"I will not leave her until I die or she dies," he said.

Ritho has since moved his family to his ancestral home in Nyeri because life was too hard for them in the city.

He is appealing to well-wishers to help educate his four grandchildren as their parents are incapacitated.

Man narrates sacrificing everything to treat wife

Elsewhere, Aenae Lotianga, also known as Nesi, tearfully narrated how he sacrificed everything he had to take care of his sick wife.

Initially, Nesi found love with a Kikuyu lady who supported him, but tragedy struck when she fell ill and passed away, leaving him devastated.

Despite finding another woman and supporting her through health issues, Nesi's second marriage fell apart, leading him to focus on his music and personal growth.
