CHAIRMAN of the Governing Council, Osun State College of Technology in Esa-Oke, Mr Diran Odeyemi, yesterday, lamented that governments in Nigeria have paid lip service to the advancement of technology with its nonchalant attitude to technological education across the country.
Odeyemi, who was in the company of the Rector, Dr Samson Adegoke, in a chat with newsmen in Osogbo, added that it governments at different levels accord half of the attention it gives Universities to Polytechnic education, the nation’s technological development would have been more advanced than it is now.
He said: “As much as governments at different levels continue to pay lip service to technology, we will be moving around the circle, and no matter how long you travel on the wrong route, there is no other solution than to turn back. We must know when to turn back and refocus our education priority.
“In terms of advancing technology, a nation that is in a hurry to develop its technology as we claim in Nigeria should emphasize polytechnic education but the focus is somewhere else here.
“At Esa-Oke in Osun, we have Bluetooth Control Fan, a fan that can be controlled by Bluetooth or GSM. We have a generator that is GSM controlled, an Electric Jack, a Bluetooth Control Fan, a Weight Control Wheel Barrow, Smart Home Automation, Biometric Attendance, an Rfid Smart Security Gate, a Programmable Load Shedding System With Remote Unit, Android a fan Control System, Access Restricted Integrated Power Monitoring And Control System, among others but there is no patronage.â€
