Daughter follows mum as Sierra Leone's top student

Just as her mother did 25 years ago, Gisele Akibo-Betts has come first in Sierra Leone's National Primary School Examination.

"My parents were more hyped up than me - my mum cried!," the 11-year-old told BBC Focus on Africa radio.

Her mother, Binta, says: "One thing we always instil in her is 'just do your best. We’re proud of you'".

So what's the secret to aceing your studies?

"What we try to help her with is structure," says Binta, "and we put a lot of emphasis on relaxing - because I feel the kids are already pressured enough."
