Umar Iyale, a veteran photojournalist, has been abducted by bandits in Danhonu II, a community in Kaduna’s Millennium City.
Bandits abducted Iyale, who is currently nursing an undisclosed ailment, on Monday night at about 9pm from his residence.
He was reportedly alone at home when the attackers took him away.
Mansir Hassan, police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying the command has launched an operation to rescue the journalist.
“The commissioner of police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has deployed a team of operatives to track down the abductors and secure the safe release of Iyale,” Hassan said.
Iyale is a former staff member of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Africa Independent Television (AIT) in Kaduna state. He retired some years ago.
On July 6, 2024, Abdulgafar Alabelewe of The Nation and Abdulraheem Aodu of Blueprint, along with their wives and children, were abducted by gunmen at the same community.
The victims were released after seven days in captivity.
