The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has directed party officials who currently hold statutory government appointments to step down or relinquish their party offices.
The state chapter said occupying executive roles in both government and the party breaches the principles of separation of powers and contradicts provisions of the party’s constitution.
State Publicity Secretary, Femi Nuberu, said the directive was aimed at preserving party discipline rather than targeting individuals. He noted that several officials could be affected, particularly those serving as Secretaries to Local Governments, Supervisors, Special Advisers, Consultants and Secretaries of Local Government Education Authorities.
“Any person within the categories listed above who wishes to continue serving as an EXCO member must submit a letter of resignation from their statutory appointment.
“Such resignation letters are to be addressed to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Local Government Service Commission,” Nuberu stated.
The party maintained that the move was necessary to safeguard the integrity of its internal structures and ensure strict compliance with its constitution.
