Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya has presented a chessboard to Nigerian and Atlético Madrid forward Ademola Lookman, describing him as Africa’s best after a standout display on the pitch.
Onakoya, founder of Chess in Slums Africa, fulfilled a childhood dream with a visit to the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid. He shared the experience on social media, posting a pitchside photograph at the home ground of Real Madrid.
The chess advocate, who also attended one of Lookman’s matches, expressed pride in the forward’s performance, noting that he scored a well-taken header.
The presentation of the chessboard was intended as a tribute to Lookman’s excellence, with Onakoya stating that Nigerian youths continue to make remarkable strides on the global stage.
Onakoya wrote: “One chessboard delivered to Africa’s best, Ademola Lookman @Alookman_
“He invited me to watch the game and scored a brilliant header. I was beaming with pride. Naija boys are up to the stars”.
