Health Ministry director-general said initial findings did not show a link between man's death and vaccination
A 75-year-old man from northern Israel died of a heart attack barely two hours after receiving the vaccination for the coronavirus, the country's Health Ministry confirmed.
The man - who has not been named - was known to have pre-existing conditions and had suffered several heart attacks in the past, the ministry explained. Health Ministry Director-General Chezy Levy immediately ordered an investigation into the incident, according to The Jerusalem Post.
"We share in the family's grief," Levy remarked in a statement.
The Health Ministry director-general maintained that the initial findings do not show a direct causal link between the man's death and his vaccination.
Despite the man's death - and also taking account two fatalities in Pfizer's drug trial - medical professionals still recommend that the vaccine will not likely cause long-term harm.
Reported side effects - which can last for up to a few days - include pain, swelling and redness at the site of the injection, chills, tiredness and headache.
Israel has vaccinated approximately 380,000 people so far with the first does of the coronavirus vaccine. Health Minister Yuli Edelstein announced that on Sunday alone, almost 100,000 people had been vaccinated.
