Peter Obi Reaffirms Kenneth Okonkwo as His Trusted Ally Despite Recent Criticisms

Peter Obi has cautioned against labelling Kenneth Okonkwo as a mole, describing him as his trusted ally despite recent criticisms.

Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate from the 2023 election, Peter Obi has reaffirmed his trust in Kenneth Okonkwo, stating that he remains his trusted ally despite his recent criticisms.

Okonkwo had previously expressed a lack of confidence in Obi’s ability to build a winning party, alleging that Obi “does not have what it takes to secure the mandate” even if elected.

In his statement, Obi addressed the recent tensions within the party, urging LP members to avoid labelling Okonkwo as a mole or making negative remarks.

Obi referenced an open letter from Okonkwo in which he shared his concerns about the party’s direction. Despite the disagreement, Obi emphasised Okonkwo’s loyalty and commitment to the labour party.

“Having differing views does not make someone an enemy. It is crucial to engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to personal attacks or negative remarks.”

“I want to therefore categorically and emphatically declare that Barrister Okonkwo remains my beloved brother and a trusted ally. I sternly caution against referring to him as a mole or making any negative remarks.

“Barr. Kenneth Okonkwo has stood by me through thick and thin, and his loyalty and commitment cannot be overstated or diminished.

Obi further highlighted that differing opinions are a natural part of any movement, stressing the importance of respect and dialogue.

“In fact, to me personally, I don’t want to work with anyone who always agrees with me, because as a leader, learning and listening are critical components of leadership.

“As a leader, learning and listening are critical components of leadership. I want to listen to those who have different opinions and try to convince them otherwise or take their advice if it is better.”

In response to Okonkwo’s criticisms, the LP described his attack on Obi as “unfortunate and attention-seeking” and expressed that Okonkwo’s resignation from the party did not come as a surprise.
